Art Park Founder David Barr (1939-2015) and McGee were colleagues and friends. Both men shared the same values and passion for community, and the belief in the unique power of art as a teaching tool.

Today, working with McGee, the Art Park has chosen to create a new fellowship in his name to support the next generation of sculptors through residencies that provide artists the most precious of resources: time, space, support, and inspiration they need to further their creative work.

We hope you will join us on this quest, the culmination of a year of celebrating McGee beginning August 16 with the presentation of our Legacy Award, and ending with the dedication of this new fund.

FUNDING GOAL $25,000.

Invited and curated by the Michigan Legacy Art Park’s esteemed Collections Committee*, the Charles McGee Art Fund will provide travel, lodging, materials and a platform to exhibit to up and coming sculptors from the Metro Detroit area. Our goal is to support two visiting artists per year in the Spring and Fall (2020 and 2021).

Working primarily outdoors, Charles McGee Art Fund fellows will be invited to use the 30-acre park as their studio and inspiration — creating artworks that may be ephemeral or more permanent in nature, using a generous budget for materials and expenses.
