Marion Hayden and Legacy

Marion Hayden is an advocate for the preservation of culture and artistic legacy. Her ensemble- Legacy, performs original works, rooted in Black American music traditions, with special emphasis on narrative compositions exploring themes of social justice, community restoration and healing. Hayden is co-founder of the Grammy-nominated, woman-led ensemble- Straight Ahead. Her recordings include Visions and Detroit- Jazz City on Blue Note Records.

Youngman and Oldmen

Fixtures on the Michigan music scene for the past 50 years, Frank Youngman and Mark Schrock (aka Oldmen) bring a repertoire of Americana folk tunes, vintage jazz, ‘ancient’ country music, and singalongs—wrapped up in a story and a smile. They’ll be joined by longtime Jive At Five bandmate Tom T. Ball on bass.

The Shouting Bones

Enjoy a delightful performance in the Art Park’s unique forest amphitheater from indie-rock couple The Shouting Bones, with Eric and Holly Jaqua. They describe themselves and their most recent album as an “acoustic spaghetti Western romance.” Their 13-track debut album, “I’m Gonna Be the One Who Holds You While You Die,” is full of songs about love, but also heartache. The duo also described the album as a “sort of indie-rock mutt.”

Trillium Groove

Native to Northern Michigan, Trillium Groove is a female-forward trio that plays all the classics you know and love, as well as their own original music. From jazz, to soft rock, to indie pop and more, they are sure to have something for everyone. Ruby (keys), SkyeLea (guitar and ukulele), and Keagan (percussion) blend their own unique styles to create a groove that is their own in three-part harmony.

About the Art Park Amphitheater

Each week at Summer Sounds, the space itself nearly steals the show. The beauty of the forest setting makes this experience more than just an outdoor concert. It sets the stage for memories that last a lifetime.

The amphitheater was originally built in 1995 (rebuilt in 2014) and dedicated in memory of Jessie Frohlich. Designed by architect Bob Holdeman with the help of an acoustic engineer, it is created for the premium experience for both listener and performer.
