Joe Zajac
Born 1950
Joe Zajac received his M.F.A from Eastern Michigan University. He is Associate Department Chair and Professor, Ceramics. Professor Zajac mentors both undergraduate and graduate students as coordinator of the ceramics area and participates in the local and national clay community. Joe Zajac served as both president and director of the Michigan Ceramic Art Association and has supported and participated in numerous projects at Pewabic Pottery. He is a member of N.C.E.C.A. and has presented at the organizations annual, national conference. His work is illustrated in Robert Pipenburg’s texts, The Spirit of Clay and Raku Pottery. He is also represented in Susan Peterson’s book, The Craft of Art and Clay. His work is exhibited and collected both locally and nationally and is represented in the contemporary collection of The Detroit Institute of Arts. Joe Zajac continues to explore the vessel form with the materials of brick, stone and clay, His Mural work includes raku wall reliefs, signage panels and large scale tile works.
