Michigan Legacy Art Park’s 2026 Legacy Award will be presented to Interlochen
Center for the Arts. The award was established in 2009 to unite those involved in Michigan arts
and culture and to demonstrate and recognize the power of collaboration and peer influence.
As detailed in one letter of nomination, “Interlochen has been a cultural magnet for all of
northern Michigan. Especially in recent years, they have taken concerts on the road throughout
the region and added classes for adults. Interlochen supports all art forms and brings thousands
to the area.”
Founded in 1928, Interlochen Center for the Arts continues to inspire creativity and foster the
education of artists from all over the world. As an institution, Interlochen Center for the Arts
claims the prestigious boarding arts high school, renowned summer arts camp, online
programming, popular classes and workshops for adults, world class performance venues, and
award winning radio stations IPR News and Classical IPR .
The degree to which the Interlochen Center for the Arts has elevated the importance of arts and
culture within the Northern Michigan region cannot be overstated. Their mission continues to be
one that “engages and inspires people worldwide through excellence in educational, artistic, and
cultural programs, enhancing the quality of life through the universal language of the arts.”
